Visibility in the workplace: Making it work for you
At a certain level, the people who get ahead aren't always the best performers. They're the ones who have mastered visibility.
For some, it comes naturally. For me, working in investment banking for over a decade, as an introvert putting myself forward wasn’t something I was comfortable with.
I observed however how others were doing it. I saw some people who knew a lot less than me ended up being speakers on panels, when I should have been the one up there.
When I started a team, I also quickly realised that to exist amongst the other bigger and more established teams, I had to raise the visibility of my work, my impact and what the team was contributing to.
I created a workshop for those who knew that visibility is important but are struggling to fit it in their already busy list of tasks or find it incompatible with their personalities.
It’s possible to create a visibility strategy that works for you, based on your own strengths, and going beyond the rules you learned about being visible that are currently blocking you.
