Navigating the shift from expert to leader
As you grow in your career, the expectations placed on you begin to shift. What once drove your success — your expertise, your drive, your ability to deliver — is no longer enough on its own.
You may be stepping into a leadership role for the first time, navigating greater complexity and uncertainty, or supporting others to perform at their best. You’re now expected to influence, communicate with impact and make decisions in environments that don’t always have clear answers.
At the same time, the pressure increases. You want to progress, to lead as best as you can and to make a meaningful contribution — without losing yourself in the process.
This is where many talented professionals find themselves at a turning point: capable, committed, and yet aware that operating at this next level requires something different.
My name is Laurence and as a Leadership & Executive Coach, I support ambitious individuals and organisations through these transitions — helping you strengthen your leadership, navigate challenges with clarity, and grow into a way of leading that is both effective and aligned with your strengths.
About me
I began my career in the fast-paced world of finance, where I spent over a decade working across three major European investment banks.
During that time, I progressed through all the ranks, eventually setting up and managing my own team. Over my 14 years in banking, I worked in the areas of project finance, specialised lending and sustainable finance. I led complex transactions, from pitching to deal closing, managed client relationships, drove business growth whilst adapting quickly to new environments and ever-changing economic contexts.
Alongside these achievements, I experienced the realities that come with demanding careers — pressure, steep learning curves, and moments where the expectations placed on you evolve faster than the support around you.
I bring this experience into my coaching today.
My approach is calm, structured and focused. I create a confidential space where you can step back, think clearly, and work through the challenges you face — while staying anchored in the realities of your role and environment.
I work with professionals and organisations navigating key transitions, helping them strengthen their leadership, build their influence, and perform at a high level in a way that is sustainable.
Who I work with & why does it matter
-
High-potential junior and intermediates are often promoted for their technical excellence and drive. They form your organisation’s future leaders’ pipeline. As their responsibilities grow quickly, they may experience lack of confidence, imposter syndrome or pressure to constantly prove themselves. Emerging leaders can also be at risk of overworking and burnout.

Builds self-awareness, emotional intelligence, confidence and leadership identity from early on
Supports the transition from technical expert to emerging leader
→ Impact at teams & organisational level
Accelerated and more intentional development of talent
Improved engagement and readiness for senior roles
Higher retention and stronger internal pool of talent

Stepping up as a manager is an exciting time yet it can also be daunting and isolating. High-achievers are particularly susceptible to putting a lot of pressure on themselves to succeed and prove they are up to the task. New challenges come up, such as how to manage the growth of others, how to delegate effectively and how to manage “up”. What made your success as an individual contributor may not always work when stepping up to a managerial role.

Senior managers operate at a pivotal level in your organisation, in between the expectations of the executives and the demands of operational teams. They might operate in a complex environment, dealing with internal politics and pushing for results by way of influence rather than authority. Certain senior managers have been in their role for a long time and may also struggle to adapt to a new environment or a new business context.

Leading at executive level comes with heightened complexity, more visibility and increased pressure, especially in today’s rapidly changing economic, geopolitical and societal landscape. Being able to drive a firm’s strategy and success is exciting and rewarding yet it can come with loneliness and a lack of helpful feedback. High-stakes situations and the requirement to take big decisions with big consequences come with more stress and a need to maintain resilience, focus and clarity.
→ How coaching helps
Allows the thinking space for brainstorming, perspective, creativity - and even challenge when the leader asks for it
